1. Registration
Visit Craig, Thomas, Anne or whoever is under the shelter (behind the kids in the picture) to register. If you're a club member this is pretty much as simple as getting your name ticked off and paying your entry fee. New members, visitors from other clubs or first timers will take a little more time as we'll need you to fill in an indemnity form related to your One Day Licence. You'll also pay your entry and one day license fees. The registration team will give you your timing chip for the day which will also be your race number. |
2. Set up
Once you've registered head behind the tennis courts and set yourself up in transition. There's generally plenty of space but please be courteous and not spread your belongings out too far from your bike. Once you've set-up your bike, bike shoes, helmet, sunglasses, run shoes, hat, t-shirt or whatever you're going to use please remove your bag from the transition area. Also ensure your timing chip is on your left ankle and stay clear of the timing mats. |
3. Race Briefing
The Race Director, Glenn or Damien, will give a race briefing at about 8AM. This briefing is compulsory for all competitors. In the briefing the Race Director will give details about:
|
4. Get Ready
You want to be ready to go! To facilitate that you want to be at the start about 5 minutes before your scheduled time. Keep an ear open for any changes to the start schedule over the public address system. Please be careful heading up to the pool as the same path is used for athletes heading toward transition. Also stay away from the timing mats. |
5. Swim
The swim leg of each race (except Event 1) is a multiple of 50m. Once the start is given swim the number of laps for your race distance. Once you've completed the distance jump out and run down the path, over the timing mat and into transition. |
6. Transition 1
After you've crossed the timing mat run to your bike. Place your goggles and swim cap on the ground next to your running shoes. If you haven't swum with your torso covered, you must then put on a t-shirt or similar. Your helmet must be on and secured before you take your bike off the rack. Run your bike to the mount line. Do NOT ride it until you pass the mount line. |
7. Bike
The bike leg of each race (except Event 1) is a multiple of 1km. Each lap is exactly 1km so number of laps = number of kms! This IS a non-drafting event. This means that you are required to leave a gap of 10m (5-6 bike lengths) to the rider in front. If you're faster than the rider in front you have 15 seconds to complete the pass else you must drop back. If you're passed it is your responsibility to drop back 10m. Again you have 15 seconds. You must keep left unless overtaking. Failing to do this is called blocking and is against the rules. Blocking & Drafting rules will be enforced and you may be penalised if you breach these rules. |
8. Transition 2
As you round the final corner on your last bike lap check for traffic and then merge to the outside of the track next to the pool fence. This leads you into transition 2. You must have dismounted your bike before you cross the dismount mat. This means that you must not be riding the bike and you must have at least one foot on the ground before crossing this line. Run with your bike to your position in transition. Ensure your bike is on the rack before you remove your helmet. Put on your running shoes and run down through transition to the mount line. Take the path through the trees to commence the run. |
9. Run
Each run leg starts the same way, down the path through the trees at the end of transition. At the end of this path follow the footpath around to the left. As you continue you along the path you will find signs indicating the turns. Continue until you see the sign for your race. Run around that sign and head back the way you came. Event 5 is a two lap run. The turn around is just before you reach transition at the water station. |
10. Finish!
Continue up past the water station along the marked lane next to the tennis courts. Ahead you'll see the finish line flag waving...you're almost done! Sprint to the end and give us your biggest finishing smile. Your times will be electronically recorded but please tell your number to the timekeeper as a back up. |
11. Recover
Please hang your timing chip on the clothesline and recover. You're welcome to get back in the pool. If you're heading into the transition area, please be extremely careful to not get in the way of anyone else still racing. |
12. Pack Up
You'll see there is a lot of infrastructure to set up and pull down for each race. We'd really appreciate if you could help us out when it comes to packing up. Being part of Team MacTri means giving us a helping hand because we all benefit..and we all get to go home earlier! |
